As we roll out our Starting Five Fit Flavors at Hummii, we want to provide the community with more than just a tasty treat. We look to provide you with an extensive deep dive into the health implications and inspiration behind each flavor! Below is our breakdown of Mindful Matcha as provided by Ma, our green tea sensei. Get ready for a savory yet patient green tea time bomb of flavor waiting to explode inside your mouth!

What is Matcha???

Many may ask what the *$%@ is this weird green frozen dessert and why does matcha seem to be one of the trendy health trends for the year. The literal translation of matcha is powdered tea and varies from green tea in that we are drinking the actual leaves and not just whatever is left behind from them. Now wait for a sec…this might sound kind of gross but hear us out. The preparation for matcha utilizes shading to turbocharge and trigger additional flavor and texture before the leaves are dried and grounded down into a nice yummy powder.

Benefits of Matcha: Preventing disease, boosting workouts, & improving brain optimization

There are numerous health benefits associated with taking in some majestic matcha. These include preventing heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, and aiding with weight loss. The component EGCG or epigallocatechin gallate (good luck saying that, woah what a mouthful lol) is thought to help the body fight off cancer as well. Furthermore, EGCG can help reduce muscle soreness. No worries then about enjoying a scoop or two after a grueling sesh or long run.

Matcha can help supercharge your workouts as well so don’t be afraid to enjoy a scoop of Mindful Matcha Hummii beforehand or throwing it into your pre-workout shake. It is proven to help burn more fat while exercising and can provide you with that extra energy to push through that last set or extra mile.

The catechins in matcha act as natural antioxidants perfect for warding off cell damage and chronic disease. The L-theanine in matcha has been demonstrated to lead to a surge in alpha wave activity in the brain linked to relaxation, lower stress levels, and improved cerebral functions (that’s a fancy way of saying it’s good for the brain).

How to utilize Matcha as its Intended

Now since we are eating the whole leaf there is actually an equivalent amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee but more of a relaxed affected due to the natural substance l-theanine. So what kinds of activities should we incorporate into the enjoyment of our Mindful Matcha Hummii??? We’d recommend some meditation first of all, hence the name lol. Thus leading us to our next section on mindful media and meditative activities.

In typical Hummii style, we look to provide more than just plant-based treats. We provide a connected Hummiiverse of content, stories, community, and more for you to bite into. Below you will find some of my personal favorite movies, music, and mindful activities to partake in.

Movies

Watching movies in calmness with larger groups can help tend to the feeling of universal connectivity and has even been compared to walking as a form of exercise haha. Ma enjoys The Mindfulness Movement, a 2020 documentary flick, featuring notable mindful citizens like Deepak Chopra and Jewel. By observing the world without our egos and judgment we are able to connect more, understand each other’s viewpoints, and create a healthier, happier Hummiiverse. Seven Years in Tibet is another personal favorite featuring Brad Pitt and based on the true story of an Austrian mountain climber who became friends with the Dalai Lama. This tale is strangely similar to how Hank and I met during his travels throughout the Eastern hemisphere in search of meaning & calmness.

Music

While I often enjoy the natural sounds of nature and the beautiful Earth we occupy, there are a few songs I will listen to for mindful and motivational vibes. Green Tea (N)ice Cream by Matt DiMona is an excellent way to ease into the morning. Additionally, Meditate by Daily Bread provides some groovy beats and a motivational matra boosting the flow of positive energy. Activities

Enjoying the simple things in key to my peaceful lifestyle. Whether that comes in the form of a yummy Hummii popsicle or other mindful matcha powered hobbies. These include meditation of course and a peaceful hike throughout the woods. Connecting with nature is key to enable that flow of creativity, positivity, and connection through our bodies and each other.
