Hey, it’s Coach Blu again bouncing back at y’all following my morning cardio sesh. Figured I’d check in and see what the Hummii family has been up to. We have received a lot of attention recently concerning the switch to a plant-based diet. Not only has it given our team more energy but it also has us feeling more positive, conscientious of the planet, and boosted our immune systems. All of these are very important in today’s day and age which is why we wanted to share with you some of the diets that I have followed.

We have broken it down nice and easy for you, sectioning our diet tips & plans into 3 different weight classes, in true boxing fashion. Featherweight will examine some methods to slim down via a low calorie, metabolic boosting diet. This will help those looking to shed fat and become a lean, green boxing machine. Middleweight is our standard plant-based diet plan with tricks and advice to maintain a healthy weight. And last but certainly not least is the heavyweight division for those of you who are looking to be #BerryBulkyBeasts and ramp up that muscle density.

Each has its own advantages and disadvantages so it’s completely a personal decision and remember at the end of the day our bodies are unique. This means that what might work for your buddy Mikey or Katherine might not work for you and we each have to find what works best.

Featherweight (Slim down/Low Cal)

So you’ve been eating a little too unhealthy lately, packed on a few unwanted pounds, and are looking to slim down with a low-calorie diet? Don’t sweat it. It’s not the end of the world and Coach Blu is here to lend a sweet, helping hand. We’ve done some research and were fortunate to come across One Green Planet’s astonishing article outlining the best plant-based foods for losing weight. Coincidentally enough, first on the list appears to be CHICKPEAS. You can check out out our other articles and site to learn even more about why these are so incredible. It makes Hank proud of his roots to know that he and his brethren can help you reach those slim goals. Also, among the other ingredients listed were berries! Sounds like #BlueBerryTuffin is the perfect snack to have in moderation for slimming down, joining the featherweight class, and to “float like a blueberry, sting like a chickpea”.

Another helpful resource is VegNews article about 6 Tips for Losing Weight on a Vegan Diet. Some of the highlights here include getting enough protein, staying hydrated, maintaining movement, and eating those greens. All things that I can completely agree with as I have trained many unfit blueberries into becoming little balls of lightning-fast speed!

Middleweight (Maintaining Weight)

It feels good to be in the zone. At that perfect weight, flow-state of happiness and content with our bodies and health. However, it can be worrisome to change up your diet while this is going. If it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it. Right? Well, there’s a catch. What if we could maintain these weights while getting increased energy, mental cognitive ability, and a renewed positive outlook on the planet.

Plant-Based Diets Leading to Positive Impacts & Outlooks on Our Planet

I know, you’re probably thinking Coach Blu is full of Hummii and making this up. Rapid amounts of research have shown however that these are the results of a plant-based diet. We don’t want to mess with your mojo and have turned to this article from Jane Unchained for more support. Here, vegan hockey player Rick Scott details how important it is for him to maintain his caloric intake while training, working, and being a full-time father. Rick provides insight such as eating “calorie-dense fruits and vegetables or legumes or whole grains”. Some of these could even include chickpeas and blueberries bringing us back again to the helpful #YummyHummii #BlueberryTuffin treat. We may even have to send some samples/coupon codes to Rick and other vegan hockey player’s way as a sign of gratitude for the sharing of knowledge. (Reach out to us if you are a plant-based or vegan hockey player!)

Heavyweight (Bulking Up)

Bulk Up with Large Amounts of Plant-Based Fuel

Now we’ve arrived at the final weight class. Feeling a little weak and trying to skyrocket that strength? We totally understand. A balance of speed and strength is key for a balanced body and lifestyle. I also know why some might be hesitant to adopt a plant-based diet while trying to bulk. I know Hank shared similar fears back in college but after I quickly taught him some important lessons within the ring, he was open to change. I scoured the internet like it was berry picking season and selected a few key articles outlining plant-based meal plans with increasing muscle mass in mind. The first is from Robert Cheeke of Nome Athlete and the article provides some meal-based diets to follow for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Taking a look at some of the ingredients and you’ll notice that we attempt to utilize a lot in our current frozen treats and plan to utilize more with products in development (for example lookout for some Edamame Tsunami Hummus in the near future…) Bony to Beastly is another jacked web-based joint to checkout for even more tips on bulking up on a plant-based diet. They’ve even sectioned off different diets if you aren’t ready to make the full jump yet into veganism and want to ease the way in with pescatarian and vegetarian options.

I and the rest of the Hummii team hope you enjoyed this boxing-related breakdown of plant-based diets. It seems there may be correlated reasons after all that the Incredible Hulk & Yoda are green (one a heavyweight intergalactic champ and the other a featherweight Jedi master), Popeye is ripped while consuming ungodly amounts of spinach, and this plant-based trend is catching with those from all shapes and sizes #GreenPower #PlantBased #Protein
